GSOC Announces Changes in Database Management Opportunities

Over the course of the next few months, Gopher State One Call (GSOC) will be offering facility operators an additional avenue for managing their database.  We are pleased to offer users the opportunity to review, change and verify the accuracy of your database polygons on-line

Using our free internet based software tool called IMAP, facility operators will be able to access and view their databases as they will appear on GSOC’s base maps without the need for paper plots. IMAP allows users to administer every aspect of their database polygons from creation to modification.  You can even control when changes will be activated.

Benefits of IMAP

IMAP is much more than a tool for viewing your company’s database.  By using IMAP, you can:

  • Modify database polygons without the assistance of the call center,
  • Review, edit and finalize changes to your database polygons at your convenience,
  • Eliminate the need to receive, verify and return plotted paper maps; and,
  • Save time when making changes to your database.

About Plotted Paper Maps

As in the past, you can opt to have us send you a plotted paper map that depicts your facility polygons on top of the new base map.  Effective January 1st, 2008, however, GSOC will assess a charge of $10 per sheet for every paper map sent to a facility operator.  The charges for the paper maps you use will appear on your monthly GSOC bill.  The fees collected will help offset the labor, handling, postage and storage costs associated with paper maps.

Getting Started with IMAP

To get set up to use IMAP review your service territory on the Internet, please send an email request to our Database Department (database@gopherstateonecall.org).  Please include the following information:

  • Your company name,
  • The contact name(s) (limit 3),
  • Contact phone number(s),
  • Contact email address(es), and;
  • Terminal code and county.

We will then assign each contact his or her personal secure login and password.  You will then have access to your polygons for the districts and counties that you have specified.  In order to assure data integrity, logins and passwords MUST NOT BE SHARED. If it becomes necessary to add or delete to the list of users with access to your database, please contact us.

To Continue Receiving Plotted Paper Maps

If you would like to continue receiving plotted paper maps to use for review, please send a written request to GSOC’s database department at the above email address, by fax to 651.454.7978, or via US mail to GSOC at:

Gopher State One Call

Attention: Database Department

2020 Centre Pointe Blvd.

Mendota Heights, MN 55120

Please ensure that this request includes your company name, terminal code and county.  Remember that charges associated with paper maps will appear on your monthly GSOC bill.

In Summary

Be sure and register for IMAP use as soon as possible to avoid a rush as the deadline date nears.  We want to be able to accommodate everyone who needs access and get them on line before the cutover date of January 1, 2008.  Based on feedback from users who have tested this product, we believe you will find it both easy and convenient to use.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Jim Holzer at 651.681.7329.
